Our History
Our founder, Matthew Garling, is an NSW Law Society Accredited Specialise in Personal Injury Law. He and his family have a long history in the law, dating back to 1815, with Frederick Garling being the first lawyer in Australia. Justice is in our DNA!

Our Point of Difference
At Garling & Co, our primary aim is to provide outstanding service to our clients; we do this by utilising the most current technology and by ensuring our clients are fully informed of their rights throughout the claim. This is done with simple courtesy and manners, promptly responding to our clients needs.
We take pride in providing affordable legal advice. We have available “no win no fee” costs agreements in certain matters and have developed a fair method of value billing (lump sum billing) to our clients rather than charging hourly rates for our work.
We believe charging an hourly rate is in direct conflict with our client’s interests and needs. Our clients want their matter finalised as quickly and efficiently as possible for the right result. Charging an hourly gives no incentive for the lawyer to resolve the claim quickly, just the opposite in fact, the lawyer wants the claim to go for as long as possible and be as complex as possible so they are paid more. The outcome for the client is not aligned with the lawyers interests. We believe this is unacceptable yet it is the normal method for charging legal costs.
We have developed our legal costs system so as to align both our and our client’s interests, so we are both working towards the same goal which is the best possible outcome as quickly as we reasonably can resolve the claim.

Our Qualifications
Matthew Garling founded Garling & Co with a vision of providing outstanding service to client’s and improving on the inefficiencies and costs associated with current law firm practice.
Matthew Garling is an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law approved by the Law Society of New South Wales. Matthew is also a member of Australian Lawyers Alliance a group of lawyers dedicated to fighting injustice from big business and insurers.
Matthew specialises in compensation law and has acted for thousands of injured people in work accidents, motor vehicle accidents and negligence cases over the last 20 years.
Matthews expertise extends beyond the law, completing a degree in Business Management before completing a Diploma in Law. His commercial experience early in his career was key in his development and gave him a solid grounding, across management, finance and marketing. These skills have been crucial in Matthews development in both business and law. Matthew is able navigate complex deals and negotiate the best possible financial outcome on behalf of his clients. Subsequently, most of Matthew’s clients are referred by colleagues in the legal profession and doctors, who trust Matthew with the cases of their family and friends. These professionals recognise Matthew as one of the best personal injury lawyers in Sydney – if not the best!
